Are Ethics and Morals the Same Thing ?

Ethics and Morals are two completely different things. Ethics is the human behavior of beliefs about what is right and wrong or good and bad. Morals is what is thought to be right and is always done by a group, society, or culture. According to, Small Business, some examples of Ethics is not cheating, or living the life in a style which does not impair others for your selfish needs. In other hand, morals may be different from society to society and culture to culture, which are expressed in the form of general rules and statements. The big differences between morals and ethics is that morals are dictated by society, which can be culture and religion and ethics are chosen by the person himself.

Yes, you are correct you do choose your own ethics. Culture is chosen by society. Religion can be chosen by you but depending on what society you live in it is chosen for you.
ReplyDeleteMaria, that is a way to look at the two topics in the big picture. Both areas can be thought about from the stand point of individuals as well. There was an interesting web site that I came across that helped show how the two areas differ..

I find it interesting how they define the terms because I have always thought of the two terms as the opposite from what you described. However, like Ms. Quaid said, you can see them from either perspective.
ReplyDeleteEthics do depend on the ways of the individual. There is a lot more someone can learn between the differences of how morals and ethics can be used or the correct way to use them. Either way I think you did a great job of explaining the two.
